F120I is a safety device that supervises pilot and main flames of gaseous fuels by ionisation; LAMTEC developed it from its F130I. In both intermittent and continuous operation it applies a 390 V ionisation auxiliary voltage. This measuring method lets each flame be watched on its own in single- and multi-burner systems. It is aimed at power stations, the chemical industry and industrial firing plants that need a flame monitor meeting SIL3.
The control electronics are built into the housing, and the device is mounted on a DIN rail in the control cabinet. Its two-channel design checks itself electronically, LEDs show the status, and it needs no adaptation to national mains frequencies. Both single- and two-electrode operation are supported. For the flame failure detection time (FFDT), values of 1 s, 3 s and 5 s are given, and the permitted ambient temperature is -20…+70 °C.
Outputs: digital signals for status and flame, a relay contact for the flame signal, open-collector outputs for flame ON and standby, and analogue outputs for ionisation voltage and flame intensity (4…20 mA). F120I is not meant to close fuel valves directly: the signal from its safe output contact has to be processed further in the plant's higher-level control system. It is supplied from the factory for 230 V AC or 115 V AC.
