The TESI XE 18 PBA 04 is a portable high-energy igniter for lighting burners that have no pilot burner or electrode set of their own; it also serves as a standby when an installed igniter fails or in an emergency. Its aluminium-alloy enclosure is certified ATEX II 2G Ex d IIC T5 IP66, so it may be used in Ex zones 1 and 2.
It needs no mains connection: a built-in 12 V, 3.6 Ah Ni-Cd battery and an automatic charger power it. Each spark carries 18 J at roughly four sparks per second, and one charge lasts for up to 12,400 sparks at the standard duty cycle. Because the input voltage is low, operators can hold the rod during maintenance without risk of an electric shock.
The stainless-steel ignition rod works at 760 °C (1000 °C at most), is made to the required length and has an easily replaced 17 mm high-energy tip (12 or 14 mm on request). A flexible stainless armoured cable with 1/2 NPT fittings connects it. Mains charging is allowed only in non-classified areas, with the gas-evacuation cap fully open.
