GFI series pilot burners light the main burner safely in industrial furnaces, thermal process plants and boilers fired with gas, oil or solid fuels. They serve to preheat the plant, to light the main burner and to support its flame. The GFI itself runs on natural gas or LPG, with coke oven gas and special gases as options, and it can light main burners burning any kind of gas, light fuel oil or heavy fuel oil.
In the standard version, the ignition transformer, the ionisation electrode and a SIL3-certified, EU type-examined ionisation flame monitor are built into the burner. It works on the forced-air, nozzle-mixing principle: no external gas-air mixer is needed, the supply lines carry no ignitable mixture and the flame does not flash back. The flame forms locally and is monitored at one spot. Flame monitoring is approved for continuous operation, and the response time when the flame goes out is selectable as up to 1 s or up to 3 s. The ignition voltage is up to 8 kV with a 230 V supply and up to 7 kV with a 120 V supply; in Ex zone 2, up to 5 kV applies to both.
The series comprises four sizes, GFI35, GFI48, GFI70 and GFI89, with tube diameters of 35, 48.3, 70 and 88.9 mm. Electrical data are the same for all sizes, which differ only in gas and air flow. GFI35 is intended for the safe area; GFI48, GFI70 and GFI89 are available for the safe area and Ex zone 2 and, with an external power unit, also for Ex zone 1. Versions with or without a film display exist, and the tube length is set between 300 and 6000 mm when ordering.
