Water-tube steam boiler

Low-water-content boiler that raises steam in 10–15 minutes: up to 80 000 kg/h of steam at up to 160 bar

Boilers and Equipment

TSB Energy

  • ≤ 80 000 kg/h
  • ≤ 160 bar
  • Efficiency ≥ 95 %

In a water-tube steam boiler, water circulates through tubes between a lower drum and an upper steam drum, while the flame and flue gas heat these tubes from outside. Because little water is held under pressure, the boiler starts producing steam within 10–15 minutes and its standby heat losses are far lower than those of conventional steam boilers. TSB Energy builds these boilers for up to 80 000 kg/h of steam (up to 56 000 kW) and up to 160 bar; they can fire natural gas, LPG, LNG, biogas, diesel and heavy fuel oil, as well as up to 100 % hydrogen with a suitable burner.

In the D-type design, the furnace consists of fully water-cooled membrane walls, with welded front and rear walls and no refractory lining, which lowers annual maintenance costs. Fitted with a superheater, the D-type boiler can supply superheated steam at up to 565 °C (1050 °F). Efficiency exceeds 95 % without any additional heat recovery system. With clean combustion, NOx remains below 70 mg/Nm³ on gas and below 150 mg/Nm³ on oil, and configurations with NOx below 5 ppm and very low CO are also offered.

Design and manufacture are based on EN 12952, PED 2014/68/EU, TRD and ASME VIII Div. 1. The boiler suits indoor and outdoor installation, and operating modes range from continuous local supervision to up to 72 hours without attendance. A PLC watches the safety devices and the boiler is operated from an HMI; for remote monitoring, a PLC with Modbus, Modbus TCP and Profinet can link it to an existing SCADA system. Feedwater must be very well treated.

Modules

Water-tube steam boiler

Two-drum design

An upper steam drum and a lower feedwater (mud) drum are linked by water tubes. Heated water rises to the steam drum while cooler water descends through separate tubes, and saturated steam is taken from the top of the drum. On its way back to the lower drum, the cooler water leaving the steam drum warms the incoming feedwater.

Superheater and economiser section

Added according to the steam quality required: saturated steam is led through a superheater placed in the flue gas path, raising its temperature, and in the D-type design superheated steam can reach up to 565 °C (1050 °F). Flue gas heat is also used to preheat the combustion air and the feedwater.
