Condensate tank

In plants heated with steam, the steam gives up its heat to the process, passes the steam traps and flows back as condensate into the condensate tank. The same tank is the boiler's feedwater reservoir, and a well-designed unit keeps most of the heat carried by the condensate from escaping to atmosphere. TSB Energy designs and builds atmospheric and pressurised condensate tanks, horizontal or vertical, for capacities of 1–100 t/h.

Depending on the operating conditions, shell and dished ends are made of S235JR or P355GH boiler plate; where hygiene matters, AISI 304/316 stainless steel is used. Nozzles are P235GH/P265GH seamless boiler tube to EN 10216-2 or AISI 304/316 stainless tube. Plate grade and thickness are calculated for the working pressure of the tank. The design applies codes such as PD 5500, ASME VIII, EN 13445, EN 14015, API 650, NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 and PED 2014/68/EU. The 50 mm high-density insulation is clad in galvanised, painted sheet steel, and the tank arrives skid-mounted and ready to run.

Pressurised versions have overpressure protection, level and flow monitoring and a safe emergency shutdown. The control panel starts the tank at the push of a single button, watches itself and stops safely when a fault occurs, and reminds operators of maintenance according to operating time. TSB Energy recommends keeping boiler feedwater at 70–80 °C, heated by a coil or live steam where needed, and fitting a flash steam tank for the flash steam that forms at the high temperature in the tank. On request the tank comes with a thermal deaerator that protects piping and boiler from corrosive gases.
